Wildfires
- What is it? This is a fire that happens in a dry, or vulnerable areas such as forests or prairie lands.
- How it happens? Many times it is caused by humans not putting out fires or being careless in these areas.
- What to do to prepare? Locate your gas and electricity and water shutoffs. know what type of area you live in, know evacuation routes, have a family plan and a disaster kit.
- What to do when it strikes? Evacuate when told to do, do not wait! Shut off your utilities, and wear a mask to keep harmful air particles out. If you get stuck, call your local authorities and tell them your location. If you were told not to evacuate then stay indoors or in a safe location.
- What to do after it occurs? Do not return home without having the local authorities clear the area; don't mess with hot ash or live embers, and still wear a mask.
